TORONTO – Today, Ontario honoured 11 exceptional young people with the 2023 Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers (OMYV). This prestigious medal, the province’s highest recognition for youth aged 15 to 24, recognizes their outstanding contributions to their communities and the province through volunteerism.

“It is a great privilege for me to present the Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers to such a remarkable group of recipients,” said the Honourable Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. “These young people have demonstrated exemplary civic engagement by serving others, standing up for worthy causes, and bringing forward innovative ideas to support their communities. While they may be at the beginning of their paths, they already embody the values of generosity and compassion in their leadership.”

To mark the start of National Volunteer Week, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario presided over the medal presentation to honour the 2023 OMYV recipients during a ceremony at Queen’s Park. This week is dedicated to recognizing individuals who generously donate their time and energy, while highlighting the essential role volunteers play in shaping their communities, Ontario and the nation’s identity and values.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the 2023 recipients of the Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers,” said Graham McGregor, Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism. “As we celebrate your remarkable achievements, we also recognize your immense potential and the promising future you represent for our province. It is our privilege to honour such an inspiring group of individuals and to acknowledge your invaluable contributions towards building a stronger Ontario.”

The recipients of the 2023 Ontario Medal for Young Volunteers are a diverse group of individuals, including community organizers, gender equity advocates, STEM innovators, mental health advocates, those passionate about environmental stewardship, and many others. Their unwavering commitment and dedication drive positive change and significantly enhance the quality of life in their communities, province, and sometimes beyond. These individuals serve as an inspiration to other young people to engage in volunteerism.
