RACING SET TO CONTINUE AT HIAWATHA, HORSE PARK SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT WITH OMAFRA

QUEEN’S PARK— On Thursday, Bob Bailey, MPP for Sarnia-Lambton, announced that Hiawatha Horse Park had signed a letter of intent with representatives from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) that would allow racing to continue at the track this summer.

“This Letter of Intent between Hiawatha and OMAFRA is encouraging news,” said MPP Bailey. “Hopefully, everyone involved with horse racing in Lambton County can find a way to work within this new agreement and rebuild horse racing in Sarnia-Lambton.” The tentative agreement between the two parties will allow representatives from Hiawatha to begin working with the Ontario Racing Commission to establish race dates for later this season.

In March, MPP Bailey successfully lobbied the Minister of Rural Affairs to begin negotiations to save racing at Hiawatha Horse Park this season. And in April MPP Bailey organized a meeting with local community leaders that produced a unanimous statement of support for Hiawatha that was delivered by MPP Bailey to the Premier and Minister of Rural Affairs last week.
